Welcome to Cold Comfort Farm, the home of one California branch of the Dibelka family, at 4,200’ (give or take a couple of hundred feet) on the side of Mt Eddy in the northern Cascade Range between Mt Lassen and the Oregon border, across the valley from the dormant volcano … Mt Shasta.
I (Wilma) am hoping to post weather and activity information to this site at least once a week, most likely on wednesdays. So check back occasionally if you are interested in what’s happening at Cold Comfort Farm …
Although he grew up in the Chicago area and she in southern California, George and Wilma met at Hemet Union High School, Hemet, California …
Classes of 1946 and 1947
We finally became friends in 1950 …
and were married in October, 1952 in Hemet, Riverside County, California.
We had three sons in three decades …
John Shaffer in 1956,
Michael James in 1964,
and Mark George in 1970.
George worked in electronics after graduation from Whittier College while Wilma was “just” a housewife until she graduated as a Registered Nurse from Pierce College in 1976.
Also in 1976, the family gathered for a portrait when George retired. We said goodbye to southern California and moved north to Mt Shasta where George and Wilma have been ever since …
Michael died in a motor vehicle accident 1997. We’ll let John tell you about himself and you can read Mark’s blog if you like.
We celebrated 50 years nearly a decade ago.Today we are more wrinkled and grey, but due to vanity, this picture will have to do.
Now we keep busy and appreciate every day here at Cold Comfort Farm.
George does all the chores required by the land and is active with the local amateur radio group during the summer season. Wilma spins (yarn, not exercise), knits, writes, researches genealogy, and gardens during the summer.
And now you know all the important stuff About Us.
